Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole are set to savour their first runner on Dubai World Cup night at Meydan, where the West Midlands-based training partnership will be represented by DIVIDEND (GB) who has already enjoyed a successful campaign at the track throughout the season.

The four-year-old, who was narrowly beaten at Royal Ascot last year, finished third on his debut at the Dubai Racing Carnival in January before scoring two wins in February. He was then upped in class on Super Saturday, finishing second in Group 2 company.

Newland and Insole only joined forces late in 2023 with the aim of focusing on flat racing. While Newland had been a prominent jump trainer who won the 2014 Grand National and various races at The Cheltenham Festival, Insole only began his training career on the joint license.

Before securing his trainer’s licence, Insole served as assistant to Charlie Hills, a role that provided him with valuable international experience, including several trips to Dubai. Notably, he accompanied EQUILATERAL (GB) to Meydan when the gelding captured the Group 2 Meydan Sprint in 2021.

Insole spoke to Great British Racing International (GBRI) about Dividend’s Group 1 Dubai Turf bid:

“Dividend has had an amazing time in Dubai. We have really seen him flourish and live up to the expectations we had as we always held him in high regard. He ran fourth in the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, so it is great to see him improve and do well at this level in Dubai.

“We stepped him up in trip and he won two handicap races well. Then the only target left for him was the Group 2 Singspiel Stakes eight days after his second win. So, we rolled the dice knowing the race was coming quickly but he still put in a quality performance to run a career best.

“It’s such an honour and privilege for him to be in the Dubai Turf. He was one of the first yearlings we bought with Matt Houldsworth when I started training and to get him to reach this level is special.

“He has been in great form since Super Saturday. As mentioned, he had a short gap between his second win and Super Saturday. We freshened him up and did two pieces of work on the grass so is coming into this race with a better preparation. He seems happy and in great shape.”

Insole also talked about his team for the 2026 season:

“We have a really good team this year. SPINNING LIZZIE (GB) who ran in a Group 3 last year should be an exciting three-year-old. She has an entry in the Group 1 Poule d’Essai des Pouliches.

“WITNESS STAND (GB) is back home now and we will probably try to defend our Group 2 Lennox Stakes crown at the Qatar Goodwood Festival. We have SPECIAL DIVIDEND (GB) who is a three-parts brother to Dividend and he did well as a two-year-old. He was third at the York Ebor Festival so we could look at going to the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot with him.

“We will also be looking at getting some early sorts at the breeze up sales next month. We have done well with breeze up purchases over the last two years so we will surely aim to follow that trend with both existing owners and new owners who would be interested.”
