GODOLPHIN TWO-YEAR-OLDS TEAR UP WOODBINE

WILD BEAUTY (GB) and ALBAHR (GB) made it a Grade 1 double for owner-breeders Godolphin at Woodbine, Canada, on Sunday night, landing the Natalma Stakes and Summer Stakes respectively.
Wild Beauty, who became the fourth Group/Grade 1 winner by Juddmonte sire FRANKEL (GB) out of a PIVOTAL (GB) mare, put a slow start behind her to finish two and a quarter lengths in front of juvenile winners PIZZA BIANCA and a further one and a quarter lengths ahead of EMINENT VICTOR.
Trained by Charlie Appleby, the two-year-old’s dam is TULIPS, from the family of multiple Group 1-winning sprinter CHEROKEE ROSE.
The filly was partnered by Frankie Dettori who, shortly afterwards, steered home Moulton Paddocks stablemate Albahr to claim yet another top-flight victory for Godolphin, and a 45th for Darley’s DUBAWI, from a field which included Listed winner FIRST EMPIRE, eventual fourth, and Listed runner-up DEGREE OF RISK, eventual third.
Out of the Group 3 UAE Oaks heroine FALLS OF LORA, the two-year-old gelding is a half-brother to three winners including Australian Group 1 Handicap champion CASCADIAN (GB) (NEW APPROACH).
The duo of victories came a day after Moulton Paddocks celebrated the success of WALTON STREET (GB) in the Grade 1 Canadian International Stakes. Appleby’s tally of Group/Grade 1 successes this month is now at five with contributions also from Classic hero HURRICANE LANE, another of Frankel’s progeny, and NATIVE TRAIL (GB) (OASIS DREAM {GB}).
Sam Bullard, Director of Darley Stallions, told GBRI:
“To go to America and win Grade Ones with two-year-olds is an amazing achievement. Charlie and his team deserve immense credit, as do the breeding side as they are both homebreds.
“To win a Grade One is very special, but to do it with homebreds makes it even more so.”
